There’s a video that was uplifted to Telegraph that indicates a VDV member with this name sexually assaulted & murdered a 1-year-old boy. He is not this person, but not everyone reads all the details before updating a Wikipedia article. It’s trending on Twitter. So I took preventive action & protected this article. Hopefully in a week or so the anger around that act will die down & this article can be unprotected. —- llywrch (talk) 21:40, 9 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Or are we willing to risk harm to uninvolved people? FWIW, a quick Google search at this moment turns up the accused pederast at the top of possible matches, not the soccer player. -- llywrch (talk) 18:07, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi llywrch. I see what you mean about search results but it's been over a month now. We should at least reduce to a fixed expiry semi-protection, but I think lifting protection entirely is preferable and we can address any issues as they come up. --MZMcBride (talk) 22:25, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@MZMcBride: I've been peeking at the Google results on a regular basis, & the pedophile still comes up pretty high in a search. However, since no one has complained that they wanted to add information that confuses the 2 it's probably safe to at least reduce this to semi-protection. -- llywrch (talk) 20:21, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
